One week until Christmas!

Phew! The last few weeks have been a blur of activities from nativities to Christmas parties to meeting Santa to escorting a Christmas tree home with 4 kids. All requiring lots of logistics arranging childcare then rearranging childcare because of the endless lurgies going round. Looking after children with lurgies while squeezing in work. It’s a mixture of fun and stress and joy and exhaustion! It’s kind of fine until something goes wrong and there’s no capacity to deal with it.
Like on the way to Harry’s nativity the realisation that it actually started at 2.15pm and we were aiming for 2.30pm so starting to sprint in sub zero temperatures arriving at school feeling like I’m going to be sick and my chest on fire. Then having to step over performing children which for some reason we’re at the doorway into the hall trying get to a seat not so subtlety. At that moment I probably realised I’m trying to do too much.
I must say though it’s been so lovely being able to watch the kids perform after 2 years of covid cancellations. I am so proud of them all!
So I made it to Thursday which was my last day of work before Christmas. I thought I’d feel elated but I actually just felt exhausted. I have had a few days now to gather myself slightly. The clothes might even get to hang out in the wardrobe for a change rather than the floor or washing machine. Check out my nicely sorted rows of laundry :)

I’m really hoping for some time to pause over the holidays catch my breath and have some proper quality time with Tim and the kids. I read an article from Care for the family along similar lines which is probably a lot more coherent than me...
Perhaps I can find a bit of calm in the Christmas craziness. With four children under seven seems quite unlikely but you know Mary was a virgin and she give birth so impossible things can happen! Christmas cards didn’t happen this year so if you’re reading this and I normally send you a card I’m very sorry. I sincerely wish you a joyful and fun filled Christmas with a few moments of peace!
